Bonjour à tous, J'ai reçu ce message sur une liste amie et je vous le fais suivre pour information, commentaires, débats etc... Personnellement, je commencerai (le débat) en reprochant à ce message de mélanger plusieurs problèmes, celui des fichiers joints dans des formats propriétaires, celui des brevets logiciels et celui du logiciel libre. Je sais que ces questions sont liées, mais le message résultant me semble long, complexe et, je le crains, rébarbatif pour les non-initiés et pour ceux qui ne connaissent pas (vraiment) les logiciels libres. Si on a de la chance, ce message peut servir à amorcer la discussion (c'est quoi ces logiciels dont tu parles) mais je crains que la réaction générale ne soit un haussement d'épaules et "poubelle"). Ceci dit, au moins, ce message __fait__ quelque chose. Brent, il me semble que tu as une signature semblable, non? Ces logiciels peuvent contenir des espions (cfr Kazaa, MSN Instant Messaging client) qui peuvent diminuer mon niveau de vie privée, ce que je ne veux pas. Je veux rester a 100% de vie privée, et je dois contrôler ce que fait mon ordinateur. Pour cela, j'utilise des logiciels qui répondent aux conditions de respect de ma vie privée, logiciels auxquels j'ai accès au code source, dont je peux modifier le code source, les utiliser comme bon me semble, et en donner une copie aux gens qui ont les mêmes requis que moi (afin de faire baisser le coût d'analyse du code et leur en faire profiter). J'utilise un ordinateur équipé a 100% de ces logiciels, car si je diminue mon degré de vie privée a 99%, j'ouvre la possibilité d'avoir des espions (protocoles ou formats de fichiers) dans ce 1%. Malheureusement, peu d'utilisateurs font la même chose que moi, et donnent une partie de leur vie privée au travers des documents qu'ils produisent, ou en connectant leur ordinateur a Internet, ou d'autres peuvent récupérer ces données a travers des logiciels espions ou des formats de fichiers peu lisible par un humain. Ces logiciels répondant aux 4 libertés sus-mentionnes tentent a disparaître à cause du terrorisme juridique de possesseurs de brevets, (ou parce que les possesseurs de brevets ne veulent pas donner de licence a ces développeurs de logiciels libres car ceux-ci ne peuvent pas compter leurs utilisateurs) qui ne sont autres que les mêmes qui font tourner 95% des ordinateurs personnels de la planète (mais aussi d'autres), et qui s'intéressent à leur vie privée et à contrôler ce que les utilisateurs font. Je vous invite donc a lutter contre le brevet logiciel car il permet de faire supprimer le logiciel libre de l'espace ou le brevet est valable, et donc a mettre les personnes qui veulent garder leur niveau de vie privée intacte dans le choix de quitter le territoire ou le brevet est valable, ou a diminuer leur niveau de vie privée. Si le brevet logiciel est valide en Europe, peut-être devais-je voir choisir de quitter l'Europe pour garder mon niveau de vie privée. Si le brevet est aussi valide aux US ou au Japon, je ne pourrais pas non plus aller la-bas, car les logiciels que je veux utiliser seront illégaux. I don't know (yet) what the requisites are, but if you feel interested enough you may still become a member of FFII. Last year this was done on July 1 in Strasbourg. I am wondering when and where to do it this year, I would say the decision on the choice of location and time should depend on the opinion of active members (at least those who (would) care to come). The first possible meaningful "venue" would be around the 14/15 April Brussels activities. To give *a flavor how this might look like*, see [2]. But there is no need to haste, other opportunities could be trade shows such as eg in June Linuxtag Karlsruhe, in October the Munich Systems or the Brno invex. The software patent directive also might be due for a second reading in autumn or winter triggering events or even another demonstration in Brussels and Strasbourg (of course this is unpredictable). Also in autumn there might be an academic conference on the limits of patentability. Probably even more important then either fixing a date or getting a consensus on a good time-frame is finding candidates for a board that better represents our more European scope (we have up to 4 vacant positions on the board) as well as the formation of teams around tasks. Pourquoi ne pas utiliser Word ?

Ils conservent la trace des commentaires et autres modifications apportées au texte, même une fois celles-ci effacées. Dernière victime en date de ces indiscrétions : SCO, qui utilise Word pour assigner ses victimes en justice. Tout à sa croisade anti-Linux, le groupe SCO aurait pourtant été mieux avisé d'utiliser un traitement de texte Open Source dans la rédaction de ses lettres de menace aux utilisateurs de Linux ! Ses dernières victimes en date, les sociétés DaimlerChrysler et AutoZone, ont en effet été averties de l'action judiciaire à leur encontre par un document Word un peu trop bavard ! Il apparaît en étudiant ce dernier que les conseils de SCO visaient initialement Bank of America, qu'ils avaient émaillés le document de commentaires stratégiques et changés plusieurs fois leurs demandes en cours de route. Il ne nous appartient pas de commenter ici la teneur du document ni la légitimité de l'action de SCO. En revanche, la fuite d'informations stratégiques qui résulte d'un fichier Word trop bavard est une menace à prendre très au sérieux. La chose n'est pourtant guère nouvelle. La mésaventure de SCO, qui apparaît désormais comme faisant feu de tout bois et adaptant ses menaces à la tête du client, est une très belle illustration des dangers posés par Word dans un environnement /corporate/ et de leur impact sur la crédibilité d'une entreprise. They have lost their mind... - --- Intellectual Property Rights - European Parliament The Fourtou report on intellectual property passed today as the rapporteur wished. This means that the package proposed by Mrs Fourtou (and supported by her own group, the PSE, the ELDR and the UEN) after unofficial meetings with the Council working group and the Commission was adopted in it's entirety. All other amendments - those from V/ALE, Marco Cappato/others/GUE and EDD - were defeated. The majority in all the roll call votes was of the order 300-350 with Fourtou, 100-200 against. This result means: - - patents are included within the scope of the directive. This is of serious concern to a number of sectors including software developers and the free software movement, generic pharmaceutical companies, the automobile spare parts industry, farmers at threat from GM contamination etc. - - only 3 parts of the directive are limited to "commercial scale". This means that the provisions of Articles 7(1), 8 and 9 can potentially be used against consumers. In the US this kind of legislation has been used to target, amongst others, children and their parents for downloading music. - - there are concerns amongst ISPs that they can be attacked for "providing" the means to download content which is protected by copyright. During the plenary discussion and right before the votes, Neil MacCormick and Claude Turmes raised the issue of family connections in relation to conflicts of interest. This is in the light of numerous recent articles highlighting Mrs Fourtou's husband being CEO of Vivendi Universal.
