Ne pas confondre "logiciel commercial", "logiciel libre" et "logiciel propriétaire"

J'ai trouvé l'URL suivante http://intevation.de/%7Ejan/infos/dont_oppose_commercial_and_free_software.… qui peut en intéresser plus d'un; il y a aussi la page de la FSF http://www.fsf.org/philosophy/words-to-avoid.html#Commercial On confond souvent l'opposition des Logiciels Libres aux Logiciels Propriétaire avec une opposition aux Logiciels Commerciaux. C'est une erreur. Il ne faut pas poser le logiciel libre comme opposé au logiciel commercial Employer le terme "logiciel commercial" comme opposé de "logiciel libre" n'est pas simplement erroné mais également dangereux pour l'évolution du concept de logiciel libre dans l'environnement des affaires. L'attribut "commercial" dans le monde des affaires est un synonyme pour "professionnel". Ainsi, si vous mettez en opposition les termes "logiciel commercial" et "logiciel libre", vous impliquez que le logiciel libre peut être moins professionnel. L'opposé du logiciel libre est le logiciel propriétaire. Tous les deux peuvent être commerciaux ou non-commerciaux. Un logiciel libre peut s'appeler commercial, s'il est disponible à la vente, si vous pouvez acheter certains services tels que la formation, l'installation, la configuration, la maintenance, le développement etc. et un client peut être satisfait de n'importe quel sous-ensemble de ces derniers. Le logiciel libre non-commercial est celui pour lequel vous ne pouvez pas payer une compagnie pour ces services. Le logiciel propriétaire non-commercial est habituellement un logiciel gratuit (souvent désigné sous le nom de "freeware") sans services disponibles des compagnies. The GNU GPL is a license commonly used for many free software projects, such as the Linux Operating System Kernel. The GPL licenses software free of cost, but requires any redistributor to provide the full source code. According to the court order, Sitecom did not fulfill the obligations imposed by the GNU General Public License covering the netfilter/iptables software. In particular, Sitecom did not make any source code offering or include the GPL license terms with their products. Following a warning notice, Sitecom refused to sign a declaration to cease and desist. Thus, the netfilter/iptables project was compelled to ask the court for a preliminnary injuction, banning Sitecom from distributing its product, unless Sitecom complies with all obligations imposed by the GNU GPL. "To my knowledge, this is the first case in which a judicial decision has been decreed on the applicability and the validity of the GNU GPL", says Dr. Till Jaeger, partner of the Berlin and Munich based law firm JBB Rechtsanwaelte (http://www.jbb.de/) that represented the netfilter/iptables project in the litigation. This preliminary injunction follows a series of out-of-court settlement agreements that the netfilter/iptables project has concluded within a short period of time. When asked about the reasons for the sudden rise in legal pressure for GPL compliance, Harald Welte, Chairman of the Netfilter Core Team states: "We are not in any way opposing the commercial use of free and open source software. Specifically, there is no legal risk of using GPL licensed software in commercial products. But vendors have to comply with the license terms, just like they would have to with any other, even proprietary software license agreement." Campagne d'e-mails à destination de Monster.lu

Chers amis, English version follows. Monster.lu est un service précieux et efficace. Malheureusement, sans doute en parfaite ignorance de ce que cela implique, ils imposent aux candidats à l'emploi de leur envoyer leur CV en format Ms-Word exclusivement. Ce qui est d'autant plus idiot qu'il y a des offres d'emploi pour des informaticiens sous Unix ou Linux sur leur site et qu'ils convertissent de toutes façons ce format en HTML pour publication. Ils indiquent même sur leur site: "*Vous avez un CV Word ? Attention !* Lorsque vous joignez un CV au format Word à votre compte, le lay-out sera différent lors de la prévisualisation en ligne. Cela est dû au fait que Monster convertit le contenu de votre document en une version en ligne, [...]. Pas de panique, *vous pouvez adapter le layout de cette version en ligne*, [...]." Comme ils font appel à des suggestions, je vous propose donc de leur envoyer massivement l'e-mail ci-annexé, ou une version modifiée de celui-ci, à l'adresse "newsletter(a)monster.lu" avec pour sujet "suggestion newsletter". Petit effort qui n'engage à rien, mais qui peut avoir de l'effet. Merci. =============================================== Dear fellows, Monster.lu is a precious and efficient web service. Sadly, probably in total ignorance of what they do, they impose to the employement candidates to send their CV in Ms-Word format exclusively. It's stupid enough when you see that they propose employements for Unix and/or Linux specialists also and that they announce on their web site that they have to convert it to HTML format anyway for publication purpose. (see the quote above). As they ask for suggestions, I propose you to send them massively the e-mail in attachement, or a personalised version of it, to the address: "newsletter(a)monster.lu" with "suggestion newsletter" as subject. This is a small effort without risk, but that may have effect.
