Glad to hear it Didi,

Most of the cases this is happening due to Xauthority file permissions. I had this issue myself before. By changing the ownership of this file to my user and group, using terminal instead of GUI had solved the problem for me.

I don't know if you still have access to crashed system logs but you can most probably identify the problem by checking this log. In some cases Gnome extensions are also causing the problem.

I wish you a nice day.

Hello Gökdag,

Thanks for your feedback.

In the meantime I've installed UBUNTU 20.04 LTS in addtion to my windows10 on my laptop and it works again.

Fortunately I made some backups of my data some months before.

In fact, the problem occurred after having answered wit 'yes' for an Upgrade of my previous UBUNTU version 18.04 LTS.  After this Upgrade I encountered an Login loop, that means that the Login screen always reappeared despite my correct password input.  Then I made several interventions based on Ubuntu documentation in the net, but did not succeed.  So finally I've installed the new UBUNTU 20.04 LTS from my usb stick (that I prepared with a windows tool called "Rufus").

Have a nice day.

Best regards,

Didi

Hi Didi,

Can you explain your problem a bit more in detail? Any error messages or logs? What kind of machine is this Ubuntu installed on? Did you install this particular Ubuntu?

Best regards
