In the context of a joint endeavour between ProSciens, Computing & Molecular Sciences (Luxembourg) and the group of Prof. Anna Hirsch (Stratingh Institute for Chemistry, University of Groningen, The Netherlands), we are seeking to engage talented and motivated scientists in a research project aimed at the investigation of the energetic metabolism of cancer using a medicinal-chemistry approach. The project combines basic as well as applied research and involves collaborations with other teams in Europe and the USA.

The successful candidates are expected to:

● Have a relevant background in bioinformatics or a related discipline such as molecular modelling or computational chemistry. Physicists, engineers and mathematicians with sound knowledge and keen interest in biology and molecular sciences are welcome to apply.

● Be very proficient in at least one programming/scripting language as well as in mathematical/statistical analysis. Biologists and chemists fulfilling these requirements are also welcome to apply.

● Apply for her/his own funding from the Fonds National de la Recherche Luxembourg (FNR). The Aides à la Formation Recherche (AFR) are work contracts with all due statutory rights and with salaries that rank among the most competitive in Europe. ProSciens and Prof. Hirsch will support the candidate throughout the application process.

● Although the candidate will be based in ProSciens (Luxembourg), a 3-month stay at the bio-organic chemistry laboratory in Groningen is mandatory.

● Be eager to learn and willing to enjoy doing science in a stimulating multidisciplinary environment bridging academia and the private sector.

● Be able to communicate orally and in written form in good scientific English.

The duration of the contracts is typically 2 years for postdocs and 3-4 years for PhD students. The deadline for the AFR applications is 22nd February 2011 for postdocs and 22nd March 2011 for PhD students, respectively. Interested candidates are welcome to contact us as soon as possible:
