Hi,
according to this [1] Heise newsticker article, chances are that
the EU Parliament will reject the software patent directive in it's
entirety.
The reason is the fears of both groups opposing resp. favouring the
patentability of software: the ones don't want software to become
patentable, while the other don't want the "Rocard amendments" to
become law, making software un-patentable.

My comment: the status quo is unsatifactory for both sides. Whether
a new text could be better for the FOSS world than the current one
with the "Rocard amendments" is highly in doubt, and vigilance would
have to be kept up.
Oh well, we'll see tomorrow how the vote goes...
