Hey Eric,
Despite the joy this Linux support by Google
merits, let's remind
people that this is beta software.
Eventhough it works GREAT :-)
That depends, obviously ;-)
[ATI Radeon Mobility 9000 / free ati driver -> freeze X11]
It would have maybe better worked with the proprietary
driver.... anyway, they
recommend recent hardware in order to have a decent experience.
Well, this would be the first application I'd need those for, I'm not
yet convinced I want to try the non-free driver, especially as they are
not known for stability.
I've tested it on my desktop with all settings
set to max...and no problems
here.
I got an amd64 3500 and a nvidia gforce 6600 (using propr. drivers).
Ok, I just tested here on an NVidia GeForce4 MX with the nv driver,
Google Earth finds only software OpenGL. Google Earth does run here
without a crash, but feels very slow (Athlon 800, 768MB RAM).
A complaint I have is the rather small font settings, I didn't yet find
where to correct that. The contents of "places" improves when I change
"global" settings in KDE, but not the menu texts. Also, whenever I try
typing sth in, many characters are doubled, or keystrokes go missing.
I'll try later, after reinstalling the proprietary driver - I didn't do
it after "baking" a new kernel lately, so...
Well, it's a beta... but I do hope for improvements ;-)
Greetings, Eric
