Monsieur,

Ladies and Gentlemen,
dear syn2cat Members, Linux-Lovers and other Hackers,
On April 29th we will celebrate the release of Ubuntu 11.04 at the
syn2cat Hackerspace in Strassen [0].
As last year, we shall adjust to the times and have an early barbecue
if the weather permits. (Maybe some different food if it doesn't.)
There will also be alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages at very
affordable prices.
More, and semi-regularly updated, info will be at your disposal on our
wiki [1].
Looking forward to seeing you in April!
David

Dear Linux-Fans,
as we're approaching the month of the Natty-Narwhal release, we would
both like to supply you with an update to the tentative schedule for our
release party as with a deadline for your talk and workshop proposals.
The schedule currently looks like this:
== Presentations ==
* 6.30 - 6.50pm, Loïc Didelot (MIXvoip): Ubuntu VS Debian, CentOS,
Gentoo. Why MIXvoip chose Ubuntu
* 7.00 - 7.20pm, Jan Guth (syn2cat): What the heck is GNU/Linux and
what does Ubuntu stand for?
* 7.30 - 7.50pm, Marc Morocutti (ION Group): Paravirtualise Ubuntu
in XenServer.
== Workshops ==
* 7.30 - 8.00pm, Jan Guth (syn2cat): Ubuntu: One small click for a
user, but a giant benefit for mankind
* 8.00 - 8.30pm, Dennis Fink (syn2cat): Introduction to the shell
The website [0] to the release party will be constantly updated and does
also have more information on the above presentations and workshops.
== Call for Proposals Deadline ==
We would kindly request that you submit your proposals for either a talk
of 15 to 20 minutes or a workshop of up to one hour until April 12th,
11pm latest. As mentioned in our previous mail, the topic of your
proposal doesn't necessarily have to focus on the Ubuntu operating
system but should be related to Unix in one way or another.
== Party ==
Don't worry though, this event is not called a party without reason. We
will of course have drinks, food and amenable people during all of the
evening.
sincerely,
David Raison

Other than last year, we're looking into having some programme along the

the young and older hackers.
I'd like to profit of this opportunity to join a Call for Proposals to
this invitation and I'd kindly ask you to email your suggestions for
talks or workshops either to me or to info(a)hackerspace.lu

hesitate to forward this information:
*Call for candidates : BIOINFORMATICIANS / COMPUTATIONAL CHEMISTS /
BIOPHYSICISTS / BIOMATHEMATICIANS (Postdoc and PhD) m/f*
In the context of a joint endeavour between ProSciens, Computing & Molecular
Sciences (Luxembourg) and the group of Prof. Anna Hirsch (Stratingh
Institute for Chemistry, University of Groningen, The Netherlands), we are
seeking to engage talented and motivated scientists in a research project
aimed at the investigation of the energetic metabolism of cancer using a
medicinal-chemistry approach. The project combines basic as well as applied
research and involves collaborations with other teams in Europe and the USA.
The successful candidates are expected to:
● Have a relevant background in bioinformatics or a related discipline such
as molecular modelling or computational chemistry. Physicists, engineers and
mathematicians with sound knowledge and keen interest in biology and
molecular sciences are welcome to apply.
● Be very proficient in at least one programming/scripting language as well
as in mathematical/statistical analysis. Biologists and chemists fulfilling
these requirements are also welcome to apply.
● Apply for her/his own funding from the Fonds National de la Recherche
Luxembourg (FNR). The Aides à la Formation Recherche (AFR) are work
contracts with all due statutory rights and with salaries that rank among
the most competitive in Europe. ProSciens and Prof. Hirsch will support the
candidate throughout the application process.
● Although the candidate will be based in ProSciens (Luxembourg), a 3-month
stay at the bio-organic chemistry laboratory in Groningen is mandatory.
● Be eager to learn and willing to enjoy doing science in a stimulating
multidisciplinary environment bridging academia and the private sector.
● Be able to communicate orally and in written form in good scientific
English.
The duration of the contracts is typically 2 years for postdocs and 3-4
years for PhD students. The deadline for the AFR applications is 22nd
February 2011 for postdocs and 22nd March 2011 for PhD students,
respectively. Interested candidates are welcome to contact us as soon as
possible:
